Chapter Nineteen

Short and sweet

I never received a call from Jen last night. Like she said she would. I just wanted to know if she got home safe. I don’t intend to be to overbaring, it’s only because she went out with Maverick. He is known for being reckless. Instead of waiting I decide to give her a call. After a drag of ringing, she picks up.

“Hey.” She answers in a sulking voice.

“Hey girl. Are you sleeping or something?” I ask.

“No just sitting around, bored.”

“So, how was your date last night with Maverick? I thought it

must have gone well since you didn’t call.”

“What date?” She pouts, “He canceled last minute.” “Oh, well did he say why?” Poor Jen. She was so excited for that date. I hope she can now see what I meant by him. “He said something came up and he had to help a buddy out,” she imitates his voice with obvious annoyance. “He told me he would try to see about tonight. But, I’m not sure if I should jump on saying yes.”

“Well, if you would like, you can come over. That way you’re busy in the meantime. Maybe it’ll help you to not be lonely, or be too eager in saying yes if he asks. At least if he asks you will not look like you have just been moping around at home.” I say trying to help her out.

“You’re totally right,” she laughs a little, her mood lifting, “Okay let me freshen up and I’ll come over. Are we doing anything or…?”

“Just hanging out, nothing big.”

“Okay see you in a bit.”

We hang up.

While waiting for Jen to arrive, I sit back in my bed thinking about everything I have gone through. This has been an elaborate year of events. Both good and bad. I have grown quite a bit. Meeting Sawyer, although it didn’t end well, was extraordinary. He made me feel a way I have never felt before. And the friendship I have with Jen has been the best. We are starting to realize we can have our own interests and still be the best of friends. Even though I would love to see her with a guy like Nathan, I am seeing her grow as a person. Some of the stranger things, I’m not too fond of. Things like, the dreams I have been having haven’t been so great. I wish I knew what it was that has been happening to me and why? Since Sawyer has been gone it has become more intense. With what happened in the woods, those creatures. Knowing I have seen them before is terrifying.

I can’t control where I go in my dreams. Maybe, the lack of control is a sign I am getting caught up in something I shouldn’t be tampering with.

They wanted to get me. Desperately so, that they followed me to my waking world. I just wish there was someone I could talk to about what has been happening. No one would understand. Even if
